On September 10th 2016, CoasterCrate launched, with an aim to bring limited edition theme park merchandise direct to people’s homes. 365 days, 3 subscription boxes, 5 subsequent limited edition merch items, hundreds of shipments, thousands of social media followers and tens of thousands of unboxing video views later, CoasterCrate is proud to celebrate it’s first anniversary!
September – December 2016: Box Zero
The original idea for CoasterCrate was a subscription box service, offering subscribers a crate full of merch from and inspired by their favourite theme parks every month. After a pre-launch campaign to build interest, pre-orders for Box Zero launched on 31st October 2016 and sold out in a matter of days. We partnered with Europa-Park for the crate and featured plenty of their exciting official merch in the crate.
The reaction to Box Zero was overwhelmingly positive, with the crates arriving just in time for Christmas. It was even featured on Theme Park Worldwide: The Show!
January – February 2017: Dark Rides & Space Subscription Boxes
After the success of Box Zero, the CoasterCrate subscription box service properly got underway in January 2017, with a box dedicated to Dark Rides, including items such as a limited edition ‘Pop!’ t-shirt, ‘The Legend of the Chained Oak’ comic and amazing dark rides heavy card prints. We also launched our CoasterConnects series of collectables for box subscribers, where you can design your own rollercoaster connecting pop badges with a lanyard.
Dark Rides was quickly followed by our Space box in February, with another amazing set of merch including official Galactica merchandise, a limited edition polyhedron mug, a ‘Black Hole’ t-shirt and much more! Unfortunately, the intense and time-consuming process of designing, sourcing and fulfilling a box full of merch every month led us to take the difficult decision to stop the subscription box service after our Space box in February and instead focus on designing and producing individual items of theme park merch instead.
May – August 2017: The new CoasterCrate
After a couple of quieter months, CoasterCrate properly returned to action in May 2017, with a clear new direction. With a new blog, podcast and club to engage and reward CoasterCrate’s fans and customers, we shared some amazing updates from our trip to Europa-Park and Tripsdrill in Germany. Once we got back, we were hard at work making our first new pieces of merchandise!
Our stunning limited edition ‘Journey to the Jungle’ A3 print proved very popular and people have also enjoyed our CoasterCrate branded badge, mug and t-shirt too. We also sold out of many our subscription box items, including our ‘From the Earth to the Moon’ pin badge and ‘Black Hole’ t-shirt – you need to grab our limited edition merch before it goes!
September 2017 onwards: More merch, Florida and the future!
As we hit our 1st anniversary milestone, CoasterCrate is better than ever. Next week, from September 13th, we’ll be live in Florida for an amazing 12 day trip checking out Halloween Horror Nights, Pandora – World of Avatar, Volcano Bay and much more. Live on 15th September, we’ll be announcing the winner of our Secret Weapon t-shirt poll and you’ll be able to pre-order the new design! And, as we head into October, expect plenty of great Halloween merch too!
Oh, and we have some very exciting plans for Christmas 2017 too!
